HERBIE NICHOLS 'The Prophetic Herbie' 180g Mono Vinyl LP (1983 Jazz/Bop)

Year of release: 1955

Herbie Nichols wrote the tune Billie Holiday turned into 'Lady Sings the Blues', but his own playing went largely unnoticed in his lifetime. These trio sides, with Al McKibbon and Art Blakey, show off his quirky, angular piano and brilliant tunes.
