MCPHEE s/t GREEN SMASH Vinyl LP (1971 Oz Psych/Prog Rock)
Year of release: 1971
Sydney's McPhee made just this one album, built around Faye Lewis's voice and Jim Deverell's churning organ. They stretch Neil Young's 'Southern Man' and Leon Russell's 'Superstar' into heavy jams, and guitarist Tony Joyce's closing original runs past ten minutes.
One of the most legendary Australian underground prog-rock rarities of the early '70s has been reborn by the good folks at Guerssen. McPhee only released this sole LP in 1971, rumoured to be in an edition of a mere 500 copies, and its legend has grown over the years, to the point where originals now go for between $1,500 - $2,000.
