ARCHIE SHEPP 'Fire Music' Vinyl LP

Year of release: 1965

Recorded weeks after the assassination of Malcolm X, this includes Archie Shepp's spoken-word elegy 'Malcolm, Malcolm – Semper Malcolm', and fury and grief burn throughout. It's free jazz with political fire, yet still finds room for a warped, tender take on 'The Girl from Ipanema'.
