CHARLIE MINGUS 'Pithecanthropus Erectus' 180g Vinyl LP

Year of release: 1956

The ten-minute title track is a tone poem about the rise and fall of humankind, with honking, screaming horns that pushed jazz toward the avant-garde. Jackie McLean's alto and the free-form passages made this a turning point for Mingus.
