The Mars Volta
When At the Drive-In imploded in 2001, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López went bigger and stranger, fusing prog-rock epics, Latin percussion, punk fury and dub as the Mars Volta.
De-Loused in the Comatorium, co-produced by Rick Rubin, was a feverish concept album inspired by a friend's coma, and Frances the Mute sprawled further, with 'The Widow' becoming an unlikely hit. The Bedlam in Goliath earned a Grammy for 'Wax Simulacra'.
They split in 2013, then returned in 2022 with a softer self-titled record, and Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacio followed in 2025.
