The Doors
With no bass player, Ray Manzarek covered the low end on a Fender Rhodes keyboard with his left hand while his right swirled carnival organ, and that strange, hypnotic sound framed Jim Morrison's dark baritone and poetry.
Robby Krieger, who wrote most of 'Light My Fire', added flamenco-tinged guitar, and John Densmore drummed with a jazzman's touch. Their debut, The Doors, closed with the 11-minute 'The End', later used in Apocalypse Now, and L.A. Woman finished with the rain-soaked 'Riders on the Storm'.
Morrison died in Paris in 1971, months after its release.
