King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Few bands have been as restless, or as prolific, as these Melbourne psych heroes. Led by Stu Mackenzie, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard started out with fuzzy garage rock and soon began treating all of music history as a playground, releasing five albums in 2017 alone.
Nonagon Infinity is a relentless freakout whose last song loops straight back into its first, and Flying Microtonal Banana, played on specially modified guitars, bent Turkish and Middle Eastern scales into hypnotic, swirling riffs. Since then they've detoured through jazz, boogie, synth-pop and thrash, from Infest the Rats' Nest to the dragon-themed metal of PetroDragonic Apocalypse.
Marathon live shows have made them a cult favourite worldwide, Phantom Island added a full orchestra, and 2026's Alien Metal revisited electronics, this time as pounding rave.
