New Order

New Order rose from the end of Joy Division and found a new life on the dance floor. After Ian Curtis's death, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris, joined by Gillian Gilbert, mixed post-punk gloom with electronic beats, sequencers and Hook's melodic, high-up basslines.

'Blue Monday', inspired by New York club music, became the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, and Power, Corruption & Lies, Low-Life and Technique, partly recorded in Ibiza, fused rock and house with bittersweet melodies. Their Factory releases, wrapped in Peter Saville's sleek designs, helped build the label's legend.
