David Bowie spent a career refusing to stand still. After the cosmic folk of 'Space Oddity', he became Ziggy Stardust, the glam-rock alien of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, then moved through the 'plastic soul' of Young Americans and the cold, hypnotic funk of Station to Station.
His so-called Berlin trilogy, made with Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti, began with Low and "Heroes", mixing fractured pop songs with ambient instrumentals and pointing the way for post-punk and synth-pop. Scary Monsters and the Nile Rodgers-produced Let's Dance followed, the latter his biggest seller.
He released Blackstar, a dark, jazz-inflected farewell, two days before his death in January 2016.
