The Rolling Stones
Named after a Muddy Waters song, the Rolling Stones began as London R&B obsessives and became the rawer, more dangerous alternative to the Beatles, with Mick Jagger's strutting swagger and Keith Richards's riffs.
'(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' broke them worldwide, and from Beggars Banquet through Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St., they made a run of records steeped in blues, country and soul that defined rock'n'roll's darker side.
Brian Jones's death in 1969 and Charlie Watts's in 2021 marked the band's history, yet they kept going for more than six decades, releasing Foreign Tongues in 2026.
