The Smashing Pumpkins
Billy Corgan played most of the guitar and bass parts on Siamese Dream himself, stacking walls of fuzz behind his nasal, yearning voice, and the result made the Smashing Pumpkins one of alternative rock's biggest bands.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, a sprawling double album, ranged from the snarling 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' to the wistful '1979', and Adore traded distortion for drum machines and electronica.
Corgan revived the group with Jimmy Chamberlin after a 2000 split, welcoming James Iha back in 2018, and Aghori Mhori Mei returned to heavier riffs in 2024.
